In the beginning, there was a vast, yawning void that existed before anything else in Norse mythology. It was the empty, silent space between the fiery realm of Muspelheim and the icy realm of Niflheim. When the heat and cold met in this void, creation began—giving rise to the first giant, Ymir, and starting the formation of the cosmos.
